About
Gabriela Aleksandra Szuba
After studying economics, I chose to follow a different calling: art. It wasn’t a sudden decision, but a slow return to myself — to the need to turn what I feel into form and colour.
I paint in silence. Layer upon layer, the canvas becomes a place of listening and waiting. Crackle paste, pigments, gold that glows like a prayer: each element is a fragment of memory, a trace of time, a wound that learns to become beauty. Working with my hands, touching the surfaces, watching the cracks appear is, for me, an act of truth — a way of making peace with imperfection, and with life itself.
I don’t set out to tell stories; I want to evoke inner spaces. Suspended places where matter becomes meditation, where a crack is not a break but a passage — a threshold to something deeper. It’s like letting the canvas breathe, carrying with it the light, the shadows and the pauses that inhabit my inner world.
My work has travelled to galleries and exhibitions in Italy, Switzerland, Argentina and the United Kingdom. For me, every exhibition is an encounter — not only with the people looking, but with the shared silence that art can create: a time outside time, where emotions recognise one another without the need for words.
